Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What does your Resume Writing/Career Writing process look like?

Customization: Our process is tailored to your actual job search strategy. We may require you to fill out an intake form, provide examples of jobs you plan to apply to, give a brief background of your current career situation, and set proper expectations.

Deep Hiring Knowledge: Then we combine our 18+ years of successful resume & cover letter writing experience with in-depth knowledge of the recruiting process having worked in HR and through the deep relationships Adam has with Recruiters from global organizations.

Completion Time: Since each individual will present varying levels of need, completion times may vary. Here’s an example of some scenarios:

Free Resume Reviews (Free): ongoing basis. Basic helpful tips for content, formatting, keywords, etc.

Resume Red-lining: fully marking up an outdated resume can take approx. 1-4 business days to complete depending on timing of your edits and Adam’s bandwidth.

Rebuild or Create New Resume: Looking for overhaul or don’t have a resume? That’s OK! Adam provides both services with an approx. 7-10 business day turnaround, on average.

Expedited Services – available upon request What you can look forward to: we typically deliver completed Resumes, LinkedIn, Bios, or Cover Letters in 7-10 business days after you provide your most recent documents and background.

*Please note: All completion times are estimates and vary based on the scope of the job, depth of the resume/academic CV writing required, and your availability to provide necessary feedback.

Q: I’ve never worked with a Career Services professional. What should I expect?

Specific deliverables for each service are available on that service’s page. You will receive a brief intake form and 1:1 personalized attention from Adam each step of the way. He’ll work to best understand your current challenges, so he can provide the best guidance.

Expect a mix of guiding questions, thought partnership, and action steps to help you with what comes next, depending on the career service you select. If you’ve signed up for Career Counseling or executive-level advising, the more you put into your sessions, the more you’ll get out. Those who get the best results are receptive to brutally honest feedback when needed, and take more ownership of their career solutions.

Q: This is a big investment for me. What happens if I do not enjoy the service?

Adam has a 98% client satisfaction rating and has maintained that for over 6.5 years. Nonetheless, if expectations are not aligned, he is fully committed to resolving any issues that come up. Contact him directly at adam@diycareerguy.com if you have any problems and he’ll work to make it right.

Q: How long does it take to start working with DIYCareerGuy?

After you book a career service, you will receive a confirmation email, then Adam will directly connect with you via email by the next business day (keep an eye on spam). Most of the time he will reply within just a few hours. If you haven’t heard from him within 24 hours, just contact adam@diycareerguy.com directly.

Q: How long does it take to complete the written career services?

Typically, it takes 7-10 business days to complete a writing service/package from start to finish, depending on your schedule, Adam’s current client schedule, and how many rounds of edits were purchased. Rush services are available for a slight upcharge. Just like any business, Adam experiences seasonal peaks during higher or lower hiring times, so you can always ask him.

Q: Which career service do I need?

This always depends on your particular needs. Adam understands your situation is unique, and he’s personally been in career transitions and job searching several times himself. It can be confusing trying to figure out what’s going to help you the most. You can learn about each service on the individual pages. You can also set up a free 15-minute Career Consultation with Adam who will work with you to find the right career service for your exact situation—just use the Calendly link on the Career Counseling page.

Q: What are grounds for a refund?

Final drafts of written materials containing obvious spelling errors, grammar mistakes, or inconsistent formatting may be grounds for a refund. NOTE: Working drafts that contain any errors do not constitute a refund. That’s part of the process and all drafts will be refined until the finished product. Any missed deliverables listed on the service pages. Also, if a written cancellation request is received before the first draft is submitted to you, you will be issued a full refund.

Q: What if I ordered a package and do not want to finish the entire package?

If a cancellation request is made when a package is partially completed, we will only issue a refund for the services not yet started.

Q: What if I am not satisfied with my career counseling session?

Once a session is completed, we cannot issue a refund unless there are grounds for one (see above). However, we strongly recommend you express any questions, concerns or comments with Adam directly. In nearly all cases, he will be able to help you find a resolution, as long as you communicate with him. If it takes an additional half session/session at no charge, he will arrange it.

Q: What if I am not satisfied with my resume or cover letter?

Once the final version of the resume or cover letter is delivered, we can not issue a refund. Should this issue arise, please communicate with Adam to work toward a resolution. This resolves nearly every case. If you are not satisfied with your first draft, contact adam@diycareerguy.com right away and we will issue you a 50% refund. If you are still not satisfied after all agreed upon drafts, contact adam@diycareerguy.com and we will issue you an 80% refund.
