10 Simple Changes for Your Career in Fall 2017

Ah, the first day of Fall…

Mother Nature’s most vivid season of periodical change. She has a way of showing us each year how beautiful it can be to let things go. It’s also Friday. Which means you’re mentally checked out at work daydreaming on Pinterest looking for “Fall Recipes.” Or perhaps you’re ready to blow this week off for early Happy Hour or family time. I bet the furthest thing from your mind is ways to improve your career right now, but maybe this really simple bucket will help inspire you to make small changes towards building a better, more career-minded version of you in Fall 2017:

  1. Sign up for a Fall Conference: Scope out some big national events in October and November before holidays. For local events hit up Eventbrite.
  2. Visit old professor:s The digital age has made us lose sight of many meaningful face-to-face relationships. Professors still love good conversations.
  3. Networking Events: Expand your professional connections over a few Fall cocktails or seasonal craft beers.
  4. Bookstore: Like actual bookstore. Grab a tasty coffee on a cool Fall day and a good book on a topic you’ve been itching to learn about.
  5. Author a blog post: Your company would love new content ideas heading into the holiday season.
  6. Organize your desk/office: Fall is a time for change. It’s also time to clear the clutter & de-stress.
  7. Take Yoga Outside: A new trend is outdoor Hikyoga. What’s better than a scenic hike paired with a stress relieving, restorative yoga session in the great outdoors?
  8. Apple Picking: Visit an orchard for crisp, juicy apples. These immune boosting snacks hit the spot, satisfying our afternoon work sugar cravings.
  9. PSL with new Coworkers: I went there. Whether pumpkin spice, regular, or tea. Meet up monthly over a cup and mentor a new colleague. It benefits both sides.
  10. Don’t Forget to Have Fun: Fall presents lots of pressure. End of year goals, quotas, projects, etc. Holiday season is around the corner. Enjoy time away doing what makes you happy.

One last thing you can do; evaluate your current work situation. Are you where you want to be? Are you hopeful for a promotion, raise, or new job in the coming New Year? Write down goals before January 1st. If you’re not happy, start changing. Small, daily changes can add up to big, beautiful new things. Just as our seasons change, so do we. Embrace it. Enjoy the view.
